Description

A warm and cozy spiced apple dessert that is perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Place the apple slices in a large mixing bowl and toss with lemon juice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. Make the Topping: In another bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, and salt. Add the cold, diced butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Assemble the Dessert: Transfer the spiced apples into a baking dish. Spread the oat mixture evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  6. Serve: Allow the dessert to cool slightly before serving. Serve with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a handful of chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping mixture.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar according to your taste.
  • For a gluten-free version, use almond flour and gluten-free oats.
  • Experiment with different types of apples for varying texture and taste.
  • To add depth, drizzle some caramel sauce over the dessert before serving.
