Description

Deliciously chewy chocolate chip bars made with brown butter and oats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup butter (salted or unsalted)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1½ tsp vanilla
  • 1¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup rolled oats
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup chocolate chips or chunks (more for topping)

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter in a saucepan until golden and nutty. Let cool 5–10 minutes.
  2. Whisk the warm brown butter with both sugars until glossy.
  3. Add egg, yolk, and vanilla; whisk until thick and smooth.
  4. Stir in flour, oats, baking soda, and salt until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  5. Press dough into a parchment-lined 8×8 pan.
  6. Bake at 325F for 26-29 minutes, removing when the center is just set but still soft.
  7. Cool completely before slicing for chewy bars.
