- 2 tbsp birria seasoning
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 oz Oaxaca or Monterey Jack cheese, sliced
- 4 sturdy burger buns
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 lime wedges
Instructions
- Gather all ingredients and prepare your workspace; dice the onions and mince the garlic.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, birria seasoning, diced onions, minced garlic, salt, and pepper; mix thoroughly using your hands.
- Shape the mixture into four patties slightly larger than the buns.
- Preheat your smoker to 225°F (107°C); if unavailable, use indirect heat on a grill.
- Place patties in the smoker and cook for about one hour until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- During the last five minutes of smoking, add cheese slices to melt and toast burger buns on the grill until golden brown.
- Assemble with toppings and serve hot.
