Description
Delicious and visually stunning, these Glistening Black Candy Apples are perfect for any festive occasion!
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Gala work well)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- Black food coloring gel
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon black edible glitter (optional, for extra shine)
- Wooden sticks or skewers
Instructions
- Prepare Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly to remove any wax coating. Remove the stems and insert wooden sticks firmly into the top of each apple.
- Make Candy Coating: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Increase the heat to medium-high and allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
- Add Color and Flavor: Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in the vanilla extract and black food coloring gel. Stir until evenly combined. Optional: Stir in the black edible glitter for extra shimmer.
- Coat Apples: Quickly dip and twirl each apple in the hot candy mixture to coat completely. Allow any excess to drip back into the pan. Place the coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool and harden.
Notes
- Ensure apples are completely dry before dipping; moisture can prevent the candy from sticking.
- Work quickly once the candy reaches the right temperature, as it hardens rapidly.
- If the mixture begins to harden in the saucepan, gently reheat it over low heat.
- Use gel food coloring for a deep, vibrant black color without affecting the candy’s texture.
- Store in a cool, dry place to keep the candy coating shiny and crisp.
