Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups icing sugar (for decoration)
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add flour, baking powder, and salt; mix until just combined.
- Chill dough in plastic wrap for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll out chilled dough to 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface; cut into tree shapes.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are slightly golden; cool before decorating.
Notes
- For a festive touch, use food coloring in the icing.
- These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
