Description

Delicious caramel-filled pastry cones that are crispy on the outside and rich on the inside.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (thawed if frozen)
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk (for caramel)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
  • Butter or non-stick spray (for greasing the molds)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Caramel:
    • Place the can of sweetened condensed milk in a large pot. Cover it completely with water.
    • Bring the water to a gentle boil and simmer for 2.5 to 3 hours. Ensure the can is always covered with water to avoid bursting.
    • Carefully remove the can and let it cool completely before opening. Once opened, stir until smooth to create caramel.
  2. Prepare the Pastry Cones:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface to smooth out any creases.
    • Using a sharp knife or pastry cutter, cut the sheets into strips about 1 inch wide.
  3. Shape the Cones:
    • Grease metal cone molds with butter or non-stick spray.
    • Wrap each strip around a mold starting at the pointed end, overlapping slightly as you go.
    • Mix the beaten egg with a tablespoon of water and brush over each rolled cone for a golden finish.
  4. Baking:
    • Place the cones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
    • Remove from oven and allow them to cool slightly before gently removing the molds.
  5. Fill the Cones:
    • Once the cones and caramel are cooled, fill a piping bag with the caramel.
    • Pipe the caramel into each cone, filling generously.

Notes

  • If you don’t have cone molds, you can make your own using foil by shaping it into a cone.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of sea salt to the caramel.
  • Dust with powdered sugar for a decorative touch.
  • Store in an airtight container if not serving immediately to keep the cones crispy.
